Or maybe they wonder how to prevent toothaches. If you’re one of these people, our dentists, Drs. Tracey Tabor Williams & Amy Montefalco, are here to help you. What causes a toothache?
There are many culprits that could be behind a toothache. Those culprits include having something wedged deeply between your teeth or in the gums, an infection in the gums, an abscessed tooth, a cavity, a cracked tooth, or, lastly, a sinus infection.
How can I relieve a toothache?
For the simple culprits, like a stuck food particle, use floss to remove it. You can also rinse with saltwater to reduce swelling and kill any bacteria that could be adding to the pain. For more serious issues, it’s important to see your dentist as soon as possible for treatment. For a sinus infection, visit your physician to discuss treatment options.
How can I prevent toothaches in the future?
The best way to prevent toothaches is to keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape. In order to do so, you need to brush, floss, and rinse frequently and visit your dentist every six months. You can also wear a mouthguard while you are active to keep your smile free from oral trauma.
